Privacy Tips When You Upload a Bill Photo

What to show and what to hide when posting invoices on Bored Billionaire.

A good bill photo builds trust. An oversharing bill photo creates risk. You want payers to believe the document without handing them every identifier printed in the fine print.

Show this

  • Creditor or provider name
  • Due date or billing period
  • Amount due or remaining balance
  • Enough layout that it looks like a real statement

Cover this

  • Full account numbers
  • Social Security numbers
  • Medical record IDs
  • Barcodes tied to personal portals when possible
  • Addresses you are not comfortable publishing

Practical redaction

Sticky notes, a finger over a strip, or a quick markup before upload all work. Just do not obscure the total by accident. Use an email you monitor for status updates, and avoid including unrelated documents in the frame.

Transparency helps swipes. Oversharing does not.
